On a day where you wouldn’t put a dog out, the peleton at the Bogman 2day had to contend with driving rain and strong winds over a tough 85km route.
The UCD team had first to negate the 2 minute handicap that was given to the Juniors and A3 riders, with Daire Feeley Donamon 4th overall at 47seconds was now virtual leader on the road and he made could of his time by attacking his group to try and keep his lead for as long as possible.
Race video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=doKLJzwoAYk
The well drilled UCD worked like a PRO team with Richardson, Mc Kenna and Breheny all doing long stints at the front to bring back the handicap and neutralized some big attacks by Robin Kelly Aquablue, Mark Shannon Visit Nenagh and Padraig Marrey Western Lakes before finally reeling in the Donamon Junior.
The tough weather conditions and strong head cross wind played into the UCD squad hands and they really put the hurt on the peleton with 15k to go on one of the open exposed sections splitting the bunch. From there to the finish the UCD team controlled proceeding perfectly with Sean Mc Kenna taking his second win of the weekend beating Barry Meade Cork in the sprint.
Cassidy proved he was the strongest when placing 5th and his win in the TT showed he was the strongest rider and had the strongest team to back him up.
Western Lakes CC & CEECC promoted the event with JJ Flaherty as race director with Leo Hallissey
The race sponsors were Marrey bikes Ballinrobe, Renvyle house Hotel, Rogan’s Gala, K2 Adventure centre, The Lodge Letterfrack and Paddy Coyne’s Tullycross.
Thanks to race officials, Brian O Loughlin, Ray Staunton, and Seamus Shorthall
