Cyclo Cross event for Ballinrobe.
For the first time in years Western Lakes CC in conjunction with Connacht cycling are going to hold 3 cyclo cross events in the Mayo Galway region.
Cyclo cross is a form of bike racing performed on a short off road lap with grass, trails, forest and roadway thrown in so that the competitor has to have their wits about them at all times. The best competitor has to be strong and skilled and be able to run over hurdles.
The aim for year one is to make the routes less technical so that competitors foster a love for this type of racing, Leinster and Ulster cyclo cross forms a strong part of their riders preparation for the road season, developing technical skills, aerobic and anaerobic conditioning and strong pedalling technique..
A racing bike with plenty clearness around the front and rear forks and rough tyres is the preferred race bike but a Mountain or hybrid bike can also be used.
Cyclo cross is a great spectator friendly sport and one is sure to always see a spill or two.
