Stage 3 of the Ballinrobe 3 day is by far the hardest and longest, once you start you pretty much have to finish as its a big loop of 122k. The first climb is a Cat 3 and comes at 30k, its up what is know locally as Sandyhill, for most its a big ring drag so it should'nt do much damage. Skirting around the busy town of Westport is a must on a Bank holiday weekend and this we do by using this bypass route. The road to Leenane is wide open and is prone to crosswinds but its when we turn left in Leenane that the real fun starts, a long steady pull for 3k (Cat 2) should open daylight between the GC men and with another 3k pull (cat 1 of Ail Duil) 10k further down the road this will surely break the bunch up, hard roads for the next 30k will make the racing interesting and also give a chance to the well drilled teams to haul a break back providing there is a team left with numbers to do so !! with the last climb at 84k (Cat 3) this will decide the mountains jersey but not the GC. The last 30k is far from flat so the winner wont be known till they cross the line.
