WLCC Report and results Rd2

Read below race report from last night of Round 2 of WLCC road race league, written by the winner Anthony O Toole:

"What a great evening for cycling and a great turn out again from all 30 club members.
The race this evening was divided into 4 groups which were divided up well to suit all abilities. In my group 2 we had about 12 riders. We left Partry at a high pace but was flat and everyone doing their bit and working well to stay away from group three.

The pressure came on coming to the finish of lap one, the pace was still high with a nice incline, the group got a bit smaller in lap two but still worked well as a team. This was my second race and last week being my first so all I wanted to do was be able stay with the group and improve my skills in a fast paced group.

Saying that, I nearly took Martin "inch" Jennings out of it on the second lap oops sorry Martin!. I can still hear him!. Compared to the spin last week the group worked savage this week with the main focus to keep ahead of group three. At the last 10k I was still able to roll up easier than on the first lap. So I thought then I'd have a chance of a top ten finish.

Then on the last 3 k we were told that we were 4 mins ahead and we had group 1 in our sight of two hard working riders. Then I told my self not to give in. Mentally I was not getting dropped. With the pace rising again we caught group 1. Then it was down to the last k. I had Inch in front who was working hard I could see a break coming from behind with John Cummins in the lead with 500m to go.

So I dug deep and focused my energy on my leg and pushed as hard as I could to the line What a buzz.! and nearly felt bad passing John after all his hard work.

So a Ballinrobe win in Partry. A home win last week in Holly by Ollie kelly. Can Gerry Sheridan win on his home turf next week in Kilmaine or will a Holly, Ballinrobe or Partry rider come out and steel it. Watch this space next Wednesday final round 3. A well organised event again this week. Roll on Kilmaine next week"

30 riders took part in the second round of the WLCC road race league in Partry tonight. Well done to Michael Kelly, Philip Staunton and Noel Gibbons for organising a fantastic event.
