Paired cycling event
With the increased number of riders taking part in spins every Tuesday and Thursday we have decided to hold a “2up TT” . This simple race is open and suited to all abilities and is a great way to learn. The rules are very simple: A team consists of 2 people and they have to try and cover the course in as short as time as possible while finishing together. The route is a flat 18km route used in the Ballinrobe Duathalon. To make it more interesting and enjoyable we will be placing the strongest rider with the weakest in one team and the 2nd strongest with the 2nd weakest and so forth. This is a great introduction into time trialling while having the benefit of splitting the work load.
This event will take place next Thursday the 19th of June and meet up at the cycling centre at 7pm with first rider off at 7.30. It all part of National bike week so make an effort to get out on your bike. There will be a €5 charge in this and this will go towards refreshment in Inches bar afterwards where you can tell anyone who will listen how it was your team mate Padraig Marrey that slowed you down!!
We hope to see all club racers, Ladies and leisure riders taking part in this, remember it’s only a bit of fun where everyone gets to test themselves and you never know what you might learn.
Ballinrobe History cycle.
On Friday the 20th of June as part of National Bike week, Western Lakes CC have organised a tour of the town stopping at various places of historical interest. Avril Staunton and Tom Tiernan local historians will narrate this cycle. This cycle will be very much a recreational spin with a total distance of 12k. Refreshments will be served after the cycle. All are welcome, dress code and bike choice are personal but we will have a prize for the most original male and female outfit and bike. This is a great opportunity to learn about the history of the town while keeping fit. This is also a Ballinrobe smarter travel intuitive. Dr Oliver Whyte Snr has kindly offered to video this unique cycle.
Please bring a bike in good working order, a helmet and high vis jacket.
