Western Covey league Rd 2

Western Lakes CC/Covey Wheelers League took place last night in Ballinrobe. The cyclists were split into three groups with a six minute handicap between groups one and two and a further seven minute handicap between groups two and three. The handicap seemed perfect as some members of all groups were just coming together to contest the final few hundred metres. A relatively flat course led to some fast racing with a small group of four from the third group just about infiltrating the top ten placings which were mostly claimed by members of groups one and two. The final sprint was won by Davy McDermot with a style that many would not liken to Mark Cavandish. Western Lakes managed to lay claim to seven of the top ten spots (results posted in an earlier post) which should put some pressure on the Covies when they host the third round in Westport. Thanks must be given to all the marshals and helpers without whom the race could not take place.
