Ladies End of Season Cycle 2012

Saturday 20th of October saw the cycling centre in Ballinrobe all of a flurry with over 30 participants signing up for the Ladies End of Season Cycle.  All under their own pedal power they completed either 50 or 80km.  Some even suprised themselves! The two routes ventured out among the lakes and mountains of South Mayo and North Galway.

Everyone rolled out of Ballinrobe together at 9.30am and completed one lap of the town before heading out toward Clonbur.  After Clonbur the group split with the more adventurous swinging a left to Finney and onto the climb locally known as Ail Dubh, a welcome refreshement break awaited them at Kilmilkinn Inn.  Once refuelled they followed the route back to Ballinrobe through Maam, to pick up the shorter route, however the short sharp climb of Maumeen had to be overcome before them met at the 'rendez vous' point in Cor na Mona.

During that time the shorter route was not resting on their bicycles but interweaving across the county border while making their way up Mount Gable or Cloach Breac and enjoyed their refreshment break back in Clonbur.

Both groups returned along the same route back to Ballinrobe and had a quick snack break before enjoying a more leisurely lunch in Flannery's.

The feedback from the day has been positive with many already looking forward to next year's event!

The Ladies of Western Lakes would like to thank all particpants, sponsors (Treacy's Pharmacy, Marrey Bikes, Cummins Supervalu, Inch's Bar,Tescos, Boots), marshalls and Mayo Sports Partnership who helped make the event such a success.
